The Monk Who Writes Poems

David Hodges

David Hodges is the monk who writes poems. In his poems he reflects the monastic life of prayer of the monks who live on Caldey Island. The Islands beauty, woodlands, birds, wild life, flowers, seascape and more are also reflected in his poems.

I have had the privilege of reading five of this remarkable mans books. It seems to me as if he embraces his surroundings as a whole, and absorbs all its beauty, wonders and secrets, and then lets it pour out from him onto paper. Then a beautiful book of poetry is born. I also sense that he listens carefully to God in his life of prayer, that God drops a revelation into his heart and there it grows, until it is time for its birth, then God and His love can be seen and felt throughout all the pages of all his poetry books too.

The poetry books by David Hodges I have read are Songs From Solitude, On The Night Tide, Delayed By Rough Seas, Watching For The Wind and Echos From A Far Shore. Every poem in every book has brought me peace, encouragement and revelation. I have been challenged and inspired as I heard all the thought provoking messages in his poems. What more can I say about this remarkable man and his beautiful books? I can say one more thing. These books of poetry are precious treasures written by one of God's precious treasures.
